PS4 Consoles Compared - Original vs Slim vs Pro
Most of our customers choose the PS4 Slim because it's newer, cools better, and has a slimmer design. However, since we service every original PS4, it operates as well as new and provides the same gaming quality as the PS4 Slim.
If you want the best graphics power and can afford it, go for the PS4 Pro, which offers up to 4K graphics on supported PS4 games.

PS4 Original
The original PlayStation 4 was released in 2013 with 500 GB and 1 TB models.
It supports 1080p gaming (excellent for most TVs), lets you download and play online games, and delivers crisp graphics with HDR.
How it Compares
You can expect slightly louder fan noise (nothing major), and you get optical audio, which the PS4 Slim doesn't have.
PS4 Slim
The redesigned PS4 Slim released in 2016 as 1 500 GB and 1 TB model.
In terms of graphics, it's identical to the original, but with less fan noise, better cooling, and support for 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
How it Compares
It's smaller, has less fan noise, and is newer, but it offers no graphics advantage. However, the Slim is our best seller and the most popular in South Africa.
PS4 Pro
The PS4 Pro launched in 2016 as a 1 TB console and was the first to offer 4K in supported games.
You'll also get an extra USB port, better graphics, and the best support for PSVR games.
How it Compares
The PS4 Pro is better in just about every aspect, but fan noise can be louder than other PS4s in demanding games.
Is the PlayStation 4 Still Worth it in 2026?
Cheapest Modern PlayStation
PS4 consoles remain incredibly popular, thanks to their low price while still offering a modern console with online gaming.
Play PS4 Disc Games and PSN Downloads
Play any PS4 disc games, download games, and subscribe to PlayStation Plus Extra for hundreds of free games.
Doesn't Offer the Latest PS5 Games
While the PS4 gives you access to many new releases, you'll need a PlayStation 5 to play the latest PS5 games.
Excellent Graphics
The PlayStation 4 still competes very well in graphics and gameplay. It's the most recommended choice for standard HD TVs.
