The buzz around Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA6) is electrifying. Fans of this iconic series are filled with excitement after enduring a long wait since the last installment, GTA V, was released in 2013.
We'll answer your questions about the Grand Theft Auto 6 expected release date and the consoles it will be available on, as well as highlight some interesting facts about the upcoming game.

In this post:
Expected GTA6 Release Date
Rockstar Games has officially confirmed that GTA6 is under development, and were originally planning to release it in the fall (September-November) of 2025.
However, upon revision, the GTA6 release date was postponed to 26 May 2026, which has been confirmed by Rockstar Games.
🤔 Did you Know: Preliminary planning for GTA6 started in 2014, a year after releasing GTA5. In 2018, early development began and in 2020, principal development started.
Supported Consoles
The console gaming industry is evolving incredibly fast; SSD hard drives have decreased loading speeds by 70%, advanced graphics cards and processors allow far better gaming performance and graphics, which is what the GTA6 release has been waiting for.
There’s no doubt that Rockstar Games is releasing a massive and highly graphics-intensive game, which is why GTA6 will only be available on the Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 consoles.
Older gaming consoles such as Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are not included in the compatible GTA6 consoles list, or at least not yet. We doubt it will become available as the older generation consoles won’t be able to handle the graphics and speed.
PC gamers are also excluded from the supported platforms, but we’re expecting GTA6A to become available at a later date. For example, Red Dead Redemption 2 only became available on PC eight months after launching on PS4 and Xbox One.
