How to Prepare Your PS5 for Selling

Whether you're dropping it off, the courier collects, or you're depositing your PS5 in a PUDO Locker, it's important to reset your account and package the console so that it arrives safely.
Follow this step-by-step guide to prepare your PS5 for sale the right way.
Step 1: Back Up Your Game Saves and Data
Before you wipe your console, make sure you don't lose hundreds of hours of game progression. You have two primary methods to back up your save files:
PlayStation Plus Cloud Backup (Recommended): If you have an active PSN subscription, your data can be securely stored online. Navigate to Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data (PS5/PS4), select Console Storage, and choose Upload to Cloud Storage.
External USB Backup: Connect an external USB drive to your console. Go to Settings > System > System Software > Back Up and Restore and select Back Up Your PS5. This creates a comprehensive image of your system settings, games, and user data.
Step 2: Remove Any Discs from the Drive (Crucial for Disc Editions)
If you own a Standard Disc, Slim Disc, or Pro model with an attached disc drive, do not leave a game inside.
Power on your console and eject any active game discs.
Pack the game disc back into its original jewel case. Leaving a disc in the drive during courier transit via The Courier Guy or PUDO lockers risks scratching the media or damaging the internal laser mechanism.
Step 3: Perform a Full Factory Reset

Go to Settings > System.
Select System Software > Reset Options.
Choose Reset Your Console and confirm.
The system will power cycle and erase all installed games, local saves, user accounts, and cached files, returning the software to its out-of-the-box state.
