  4. A warning message will appear. If you are sure about resetting your PS5, choose Reset

A PS5 factory reset will remove all the accounts, games, and account details from the console. Once completed, you or the new owner will need to setup the console as if it was new.

Hard Reset PS5 in Safe Mode

A PS5 hard reset is used to reset the console without accessing the main PS5 homescreen. If your PS5 has an issue booting correctly, use safe mode to reset it.

Here's how to hard reset your PS5 in safe mode:

  2. Hold the power button until you hear two beeps (About 7 seconds)

  3. Once in safe mode, connect your PS5 controller with a USB cable

Reinstall PS5 System Software

If a factory or hard reset does not work, you might need to reinstall the system software. To do this, you'll need a USB flash drive and a computer with internet access.

Follow these steps to reinstall PS5 system software:

Downloading New System Software:

  1. Insert a USB drive into a PC or Mac computer.

  2. Format the USB drive as FAT32 or exFAT.

  3. Create a new folder on the USB drive named "UPDATE"

  4. Download the latest PS5 system software from the PS5 system software update page

  5. Once downloaded, move the downloaded file to the "UPDATE" folder on the USB drive. Ensure the name is "PS5UPDATE.PUP"

PS5 Could Not Find the Update File

If you get an error message stating that the update file could not be found, ensure that the file names on the USB drive are correct.

Firstly, ensure the USB drive is formatted as FAT32 or exFAT. On the USB drive, only the "UPDATE" folder should be visible (the name is case sensitive).

In the "UPDATE" folder, only the "PS5UPDATE.PUP" file should be there. Ensure it doesn't have any other characters such as "(1)" anywhere on the file name.

If the update continues to fail or the new software does not resolve the problem, you might require a technician to examine the PS5 console.
